Salt Spring Island is one of the Gulf Islands in the Strait of Georgia between mainland British Columbia and Vancouver Island. It is home to many vineyards, farms, wildlife, and a vibrant artist community. It is a truly pastoral setting and one which 2 formerly Toronto residents chose to move to in order to escape the rigours of city life.

An acreage with a farmhouse and coach house built in the 1980’s with a view of the ocean beyond was an ideal setting, but one where the current residence needed substantial updating and some carefully thought out planning.

The context, as always, fed the concept and design with nods to the architectural vernacular of the surrounding farms and rural setting. Rustic and distressed woods, marbles, zinc, and vintage inspired ceramics and fixtures set the tone for this contemporary rustic farmhouse.
